On December 2, David Holt and Josh Goforth received a GRAMMY nomination in the Best Traditional Folk Album (Vocal or Instrumental) for their first live duo recording, Cutting Loose.
Taped during the National Storytelling Festival in Jonesborough, Tenn., Cutting Loose is a collection of songs, stories, and amazing musicianship that brings the joy and spirit of old-time music and stories to life.
The album features virtuosic sounds of guitar, banjo, fiddle, slide guitar, and mandolin blended with vocal harmonies. A world of irresistible rhythm is created with the addition of hambone, spoons, bones, stump-fiddle, jaw harp, and even paper bag sure to thrill listeners of all ages.
Holt, a four-time GRAMMY winner, is recognized as one of the nation’s foremost folk musicians and storytellers. He has been collecting and performing music for 35 years and has made multiple appearances at the National Storytelling Festival.
Goforth is a young and upcoming acoustic musician devoted to presenting and teaching both old-time and bluegrass music. He has performed at festivals and concerts across the U.S. and around the world. This is Goforth’s first GRAMMY nomination.
The 52nd Annual GRAMMY Awards will take place at Staples Center in Los Angeles on Sunday, Jan. 31, 2010, and will air live on the CBS Television Network from 8–11:30 p.m. (ET/PT).
